Calmness, depth, and materiality in an Athenian apartment.
This project confirms that interior design operates as a unified architectural whole, where space is organized through rhythm, materiality, and controlled contrasts. The design approach was based on the composition of architectural rhythm, the rhythm of furnishings, and the carefully considered coexistence of textures and reflections, with the aim of creating an interior environment with a clear and recognizable identity.
The client’s request was the creation of a contemporary hospitality apartment, designed for users who move and work within the city, such as digital nomads,placing emphasis on material quality and on a sense of stability and calm. The space was delivered by the developer with strong and high-quality materials already in place, including onyx, marble, polished cement surfaces, and oak flooring. Rather than attempting to neutralize these elements, the design approach focused on establishing a dialogue and balance between them.
Furniture and objects were selected with discretion in mind, allowing them to support the architectural materials rather than compete with them. Warm wooden surfaces, ribbed elements, and natural textures create a calm and stable background, set in contrast with the darker and more solid finishes. Textiles move within light tonalities, while the materials remain natural, in earthy hues and without strong colors, referencing a contemporary Mediterranean interpretation free from folkloric references.
This contrast operates spatially rather than decoratively, enhancing the depth and rhythm of the interior and producing a dramatic yet controlled atmosphere.
The final composition forms a hospitality space with strong architectural coherence, where the contemporary character emerges through the careful control of materials and details. A timeless design language that conveys calmness and cohesion, an environment designed for everyday use and hospitality, rather than for spectacle.
